May 13th
Grocery day. Oh yeah. Good stuff. Physics in the morning and then lab in the afternoon. Then I came home and went to the gym, and then speedily got ready to go see Cabaret with Shadé. Cabaret was insane, but awesome. Anna and a few other girls from surf camp were in it as dancers and then John was in it as every character ever, which I feel like is what he gets cast as often at Macquarie. Life is a cabaret, old chum.
As always, I had a blast with Shadé. She's one of my favorite Australians for sure and I'm going to miss her dearly when I leave.
I got back home in a reasonable hour and hoped to go out and do something, but yet again that didn't work out. Instead I stayed in and watched O Brother, Where Art Thou? with Sean. It was a good night. Sean fell asleep and went upstairs and I watched Lost. Honestly, I was having such a peaceful time watching the movie that I might have been ok with skipping Lost to finish it.

Overexposed, commercialized, handle me with care...

March 24th
This morning was physics. I really enjoy this class for some reason. I made it to class and we talked more about electric fields and magnetic fields. Then we had tutorial, which I really enjoy because it's just doing problems without the stress of having to get them correct (although it feels really good when you do).
After class, I needed to hit up the grocery store. Typically I go on Wednesday with Justin, but I was intending on attending an optics seminar smack in the middle of my break Wednesday, so I shifted to Tuesday instead. On the way over, I got some free energy drink juice. I enjoyed their label:
I also remembered to bring some coupons I had to the center and use them before they expired. For lunch, I got this Chicken Laska dish which reminded me of the Vietnamese phở I've eaten at home, except it was crazy spicy. It's a noodle soup, with chicken, that is incredibly spicy and delicious. I have no idea how I ever finished a bowl of soup this large at home; even the smalls are massive. The reason I got the dish was because it came with a free drink for my coupon. My free drink: fruit cocktail with shaved ice. It sounded much more appetizing when I ordered it. Anyway, I couldn't physically eat it all so I took a picture of my leftovers.
I got my shopping done and trekked home. Then on to philosophy where we spent an interesting hour talking about "the sublime" and another interesting hour talking about "purposiveness without purpose." After that, I had a desire to find our campus radio station, so I did. I peeked in and didn't stay. I saw this pretty flower though in the courtyard.
I made my way back home where no one was doing anything particularly interesting. I also met up with the girls I'm going on spring (ahem, autumn) break with to plan our trip. I brought my cool maps.

It's one for the Dagger and another for the one you believe

March 11th
Late last night after we got home from our shenanigans, I started thinking that my roommate Andy's birthday was coming up. I checked and it was Thursday. I made the decision that I was going to bake a cake. In case you weren't aware, I gave up sweets for Lent. This was certainly my biggest challenge yet.
But I'm stubborn, and once I decide I'm going to bake a cake, there isn't much anyone can do to stop me.
I went to class in the morning and spent half of it plotting the necessary ingredients to buy at the grocery store during my weekly trip and the other half trying to stay awake. I also had "Chelsea Dagger" by The Fratellis in my head. This will be relevant later.
Anyway, I left class, went to the store, got my goods and was on my way out when I decided to take a different route home. I knew that the route led me to my apartment, I just didn't know how roundabout it was. The sky was a bit cloudy, but I'm stubborn, and once I decide I'm going to walk home a different way, there isn't much anyone can do to stop me.
I was about halfway there when the sky opened and dumped water. There's no poetic way to say that. I was drenched; my books and folders were wet, the groceries were mostly guarded by the plastic bags they were in, but I came home dripping. I was however incredibly satisfied that I knew where that road went. Now if someone asks me where that road goes, I can tell them.
Anyway, I went to lab after dropping of my groceries. All of my folders had colored all the papers inside them when they got wet. Oh well. Shaheen and I had a great time with our non-functioning lab. I took a picture of my favorite poster in the physics lab, and a few others.
Our least favorite piece of equipment. It likes to just change the reading drastically whenever you hit the table:

Anyway, after lab I went to my class at the gym. Then I decided that I was going to go see A Dark Day's Knight at the Lighthouse Theater on campus. I had seen signs for the show with classy taglines like "Murder. Lust. Betrayal. Jedi." and I had heard they were using reworded indie songs throughout the musical. I had to see this.
I couldn't find anyone else to tag along with me, but it ended up not mattering at all. I met Shadé at the theater while waiting to get in and we had a lot of fun talking and I sat with her and two other people we met that day (Cat and Kate). Everyone is so friendly here. We watched the show and I was completely enthralled with the production and well, essentially it blew my mind.
The songs reworked included songs by Massive Attack, Placebo, Arctic Monkeys, The Zutons, Kaiser Chiefs, Nirvana, No Doubt, Bloc Party, The Dandy Warhols, Franz Ferdinand, Muse, etc. Oh, and "Chelsea Dagger" by The Fratellis. I told you it'd be relevant later. That same song that I had stuck in my head this morning came back around to me at A Dark Day's Knight. It was one of those "meant to be" moments. I showed Shadé where I had written the song down in my "list of songs that will become blog post titles" page of my mini-notebook. Crazy stuff.
Seriously though, I really think that all fights with lightsabers should be accompanied by Muse and/or Bloc Party. The choreography of the fight scenes was phenomenal and the blacklight lightsaber battle to Muse's "Hysteria" was probably the best thing that I've ever seen done on stage.
Excellent music aside, I really did enjoy the play and I thought it was incredible considering it was student written, directed and produced. I was incredibly impressed. One of the girls from my surf camp trip Taylor was in the show and I stuck around with Shadé to tell her and the rest of the cast that they were amazing.
I went home up the hill and found Andy and a crowd of people in his room. They were waiting for midnight to come around for Andy's birthday and I joined. We celebrated at midnight and then I went to sleep.

Am I the only one who's insane?

February 20th
Today was a fairly lazy day. With everyone still recovering from the public transportation disaster from the night before, not many people were early to rise in my apartment. I got up before most and headed down to the Macquarie Centre to do some grocery shopping. On the way, I took a few pictures of campus.
At the store I got a boatload of stuff, including but not limited to: air freshener (crucial), battery charger (I'm pretty sure my other one won't work here, silly voltage), and St. Ives facial scrub. I was pretty thrilled about the scrub because I didn't see it at the other Woolworth's and I wasn't sure it was available.
On a very uninteresting side note, Woolworth's has every kind of TRESemmé shampoo and conditioner except the one I want. This is just mildly frustrating, but I'm looking at it as a way to try new shampoos for a change.
Ok, back to story. One thing I like about Woolworth's is that they have free samples, à la Sam's Club. One of the men giving out sausage samples cracked me up.
"These sausage samples are so delicious, if you give them to your friends, they'll disappear. The sausages, not your friends!" - Sausage Guy
As I left the grocery store, I tried to arrange my bags and spilled half my grapes on the table. Carrying groceries back and forth is not something I would wish on most people. I may invest in one of those shopping carts I hear you can purchase if I ever find one. Stealing a shopping cart carries a $1000 fine, so you won't catch me doing that any time soon.
When I got back, I realized I had essentially missed the Village's BBQ. I missed out on some free stuff, but I didn't really mind. I went to the gym after getting back, and by the time I returned and cleaned up, we were on our way out again. The UBar (I think) was having a Beach Party. Sounds fun, right?
The dancing at the party was completely started by the group I was with. There was almost no one there. They also had run out of sausages, so I had a veggie burger. The veggie burger had actual vegetables in it. You could see the peas and carrots. It didn't taste great, so I didn't finish it.
We stayed for awhile, and then me, Tara, and Tara left and headed back for the village. It's T-ah-ra and T-eh-ra. Different pronunciations. I'm so sorry for mixing them up all the time girls. When we left, we saw this giant cockroach and bolted out of there.
We hung out with some people from apt 8 on the grass for a bit, coated ourselves in bug spray, and then left to hang out with other people who didn't have our bug spray odor on them. Still fun. It was a long night, but pretty fun.
